Newcomer Family Committee

One of FHBC's ministries is that of the Newcomer Family Committee. This committee was formed with the purpose of bringing Christian families from an unsafe or unstable environment overseas into Canada, where they are met with not only welcome and loving arms, but with a body of believers who are willing and able to assure that these families get what they need in order to become productive and stable members of society here in Canada.

This committee is formed as needed when the church decides to rescue a Christian family from some refugee camp over seas. The committee is maintained by a Deacon who is the appointed Committee Chair.

The Chair is appointed by the Deacons Board. This person is responsible to set up the committee and see that the nominating committee recruits the other four members. When the committee is formed this person will chair the meetings each month and communicate the progress to the church as the process progresses. This report will be given at the business meetings and a written copy is produced for the church clerk and the communication manual. This manual is produced by the committee and contains the process followed by the committee to rescue a new comer family as well as meeting minuets, reports, and communications with the Government and/or new comer family.

In addition, there is a Daily Living Member. This person forms and chairs a committee called daily living. They additionally recruit all required personnel. The committee is responsible for obtaining all necessary clothing, house hold items, and living quarters for the new comer family

The Social Member forms and chairs a committee called the Social Committee which is responsible to help integrate the new comer family into the community. This person also recruits all required personnel as needed. The Social committee teaches both the new comer family and the church how to accept each other's culture.

The Health Member forms and chairs a committee called the health committee. This committee arranges for doctors, dentists, and anything required for health matters for the new family.

Another committe is formed and chaired by the Finance Member. The members of this committee assist and train the new family how to manage money, and how to do required banking.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee is comprised of seven teller teams, who count the Sunday offerings and prepare bank deposits.

Financial Secretary (Bev Purinton), takes the work that the tellers have started each week and uses it to keep track of accurate and confidential accounting of individual giving and issuing of year-end tax receipts.

Treasurer (Elaine MacDonald) and Bookkeeper (Charmagne Stevens), pay the bills, account for expenses, generate monthly statements, and so much more.

Chairman (John Nichol), along with the Treasurer, represents the Finance Committee on the Executive, oversees the day-to-day financial issues that arise, and prepares the budget and tellers schedule each year.

Missions Committee

The objective of the Missions Committee is to assist in providing the satisfactory needs of our Missionaries in the field.

We recognize the purpose of missions is to glorify God (Ps. 96:3) and to fulfill our Lord’s command in the Great Commission (Matt. 28:16-20). In referring to missions we are concerned with those endeavors outside the local congregation (either in our city or around the world) that seek to fulfill the above purpose. This is accomplished by: proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ that people might hear and believe as the Holy Spirit speaks to their hearts (John 3:5,16-18; Romans 10:13-15; 1 Cor. 1:17-21), discipline believers that they may mature(Eph. 4:11-16), and ministering to the whole need of mankind – both spiritual and physical (James 2:15; Mark 12:30-31).

While every believer is to be a witness in the world and is to obey Christ by confessing him to others (Acts 1:8, Romans 1:6) we also recognize that the Holy Sprit has gifted some for particular ministries in missions. It is our desire to send out missionaries to help fulfill the missionary purpose of
God has given to us. In this we see the mutual responsibilities both missionary and church have towards each other (Acts 13:1-3; Acts 14:21-38).

Composition of the Missions Committee will consist of one deacon appointed by the deacon’s board and six members of the congregation.
